“The Boy Scouts have missed an opportunity to exercise leadership and usher the organization back to relevancy,” - Richard Ferraro, VP of GLAAD in response to the organization’s proposal to “compromise” by allowing gay youth members to participate but not gay leaders.
The Scouts need to stop talking about leadership and actually be leaders. Their pandering to members who believe its OK to discriminate based on disproven stereotypes is just cowardly. It’s really that simple.
You don’t compromise on discrimination. That’s not leadership. The results of their own survey clearly demonstrate that the country has progressed on the issue. The proposal to compromise is regressive and obstructionist and those words don’t sound at all like leadership to me.
